How to Stay Safe on an Airplane
Overall, flying is generally safe. In fact, statistics show that people are much safer in the air than they are on the ground. Rarely do major incidents occur where passengers are injured. However, should the unthinkable occur, passengers can take certain measures to increase their chances of emerging from the incident unscathed.
A very simple thing passengers can do when flying is to always keep their seat belt fastened when they are in their seats. Even if the fasten seatbelt indicator is not turned on, this is still a good practice. Sometimes turbulence can occur without any warning. By being buckled up already, you’ve protected yourself from any unnecessary jarring.
Also, listening to the flight attendants is something you should do. While this sounds like common sense, there are many people who do not do this. Flight attendants are on flights for a reason. They have your safety in mind. Another thing you should let flight attendants do is pour your hot beverages. They are trained to pour these hot liquids in the crowded aisle space with possible turbulence happening. Let them hand it to you as well. This will keep you or other passengers from getting scalded by hot liquids. Should you be unfortunate and suffer any sort of accident while flying – whether it be burns from a hot drink in your lap, or getting hit by luggage falling down from the luggage rack you have the right to claim air accident compensation.
Another thing many people do not realize when flying is that alcohol affects them much more than if they were drinking at sea level. The pressure in the air cabin is the same as Denver, which has a high elevation. Drinks hit people much more quickly. Keeping your alcohol consumption to a minimum will keep you from becoming obnoxious and acting badly towards fellow passengers as well as being able to think clearly if an accident should occur.
When flying, do not bring any hazardous materials on the plane. While this may seem like an obvious thing to do, many people actually do not follow this. It’s probably a good idea to refresh your awareness of what items you can and cannot being onto airplanes prior to flying.
